IKonso: Ohaneze Warns Government To Start Dialogue Now To Avoid Further Catastrophe In The South East
Ohaneze Ndigbo has asked both the Federal and State Governments to open dialogue with the aggrieved Igbo youths as early now, to avoid a major catastrophe that is currently brewing, the group said that a lot of bad blood has been created with the killing of Ikonso, the Imo sector commander of ESN by Nigeria security forces some days ago.
Ohaneze complained of the heightened tension and insecurity arising from the killing of the commander, and they urge the government at all levels to as a matter of urgency start the process of dialogue.
The apex Igbo socio- cultural organization stated this through a communiqué signed by the Secretary- General, Chidi- Ibeh added there is the likelihood of this insecurity to intensified because of IPOB' s call for revenge.
Ohaneze accused the Nigerian security forces of creating the current insecurity by the killing of innocent Biafra agitators who were holding meetings.
There have been instances where security agencies opened fire on Biafra agitators where they are holding their meetings and nothing was done about it. That is where the problem started and we must address it from there. Ohaneze demanded.
The group outlined the two major problems facing Igbo land as killer herdsmen attacking villages and farmlands and the neglect of Igbo youths by politicians, however, Ohaneze cautioned that the situation will not favour the East in the long run, hence the call for urgent dialogue.
We have two challenges- the killer herdsmen who have been ravaging the land and nothing serious was done to checkmate them. Secondly, the neglect of the youths while politicians lived in affluence.
However, we must all know that whatever is happening is to our own disadvantage and the enemies are happy that the South- East is burning.
There should be town hall meetings; there should be interface, engagements with the youths, the youths are not happy with the system they found themselves in Nigeria.
The governors are even setting up committees without the youths, without their representatives. We are calling on the governors and other stakeholders to reach out to the youths, they should give what belongs to the youths to them. There is danger ahead and that danger can be averted now. If they fail to do so, it will not augur well for our people, he warned.
